Here are the speculations about some of the new features that Apple iOS 17 may bring, ranging from enhanced control center to app sideloading.
Apple is scheduled to reveal iOS 17, among other things, at the June 5 WWDC 2023 developers conference. According to insiders, iOS 17 will offer more than just another incremental update to the iPhone OS, with speculated features like app sideloading and a redesigned control center.
Here are some of the highly anticipated features that could be announced for iOS 17.
Support for app sideloading
App sideloading is a highly anticipated feature, especially in Europe, where regulations may require Apple to allow it. Despite being restricted to jailbroken devices, iOS 17 may introduce app sideloading in select markets. This would enable iPhone users to download and install apps from outside the App Store, providing greater flexibility and choice.
Improved Control Center
Apple is reportedly planning a major design overhaul for the control Center in 2023 with the release of iOS 17. The updated version will feature a more intuitive user interface and may include the Dynamic Island feature to enhance the user experience. This marks the first significant redesign of the control panel in almost five years.
New messages and wallet app
In addition to the aforementioned features, iOS 17 may also receive a new wallet app and updated layout for the messages app's homepage. Furthermore, Apple is focusing on enhancing stability in the upcoming operating system compared to iOS 16. It's possible that some of these features may only be available on newer iPhone models.
The upcoming iPhones are expected to receive significant upgrades, including a USB Type-C port for faster data transfer. The iPhone 15 Pro is rumored to have a premium titanium frame and a 1-inch camera sensor, both of which would be firsts for an iPhone.
